Visiting Granada and Olive Oil Tasting in Spain…
I’m not sure how many times I’ve said this, but Granada and the olive oil tasting were two of my favorite things we did in Spain. In my defense, we did A LOT in Spain, so I’m just giving you my highlights and favorites of what we did, so of course, I’m going to say that repeatedly! Oh and TGIF! I hope you’ve had a lovely week. For me, it has flown by so fast! Just think July is around the corner! I foresee myself talking about fall clothing before we even know it {insert slight gasping and panic attack}.
Back to Spain…. because of the tour we chose, we had the opportunity to visit a gorgeous Basilippo olive oil plantation and learn all about how it’s made and distinguishing the differences between real extra virgin olive oil and the impostors. I was especially excited because I love cooking and I use olive oil daily.
First and foremost, real extra virgin olive oil is kept in dark containers. To taste olive oil, please a little on the front of your tongue and then swish to the sides and swallow. As you swallow you want to exhale to get all of the flavors. Good extra virgin olive oil should be fresh and green tasting. It should remind you of green tomatoes, fresh cut grass, etc. Fun fact: Spain produces over 40% of the world production of olive oil (more than Italy- I was shocked!) I was also shocked that my extra virgin olive oil at home did not meet any of these criteria.
On to the Alhambra located in Granada….. I have so many pictures of this beautiful city, I could probably make a book. Of course, they don’t do it justice, but it was so fun wondering around and taking in all of the beauty.
