Summer Grillin’- Grilled Pizza Recipe
Homemade pizza is a staple in this house, but summer means switching things up by grilling instead of using the oven! It adds a smokiness that we love, and it’s so so easy to make. The key to fantastic pizza is really the ingredients–my favorite tomatoes to use are canned San Marzano, imported from Italy. I’ve also tried a few different pre-made pizza crusts, and this one from Bistro is delicious and holds up well on the grill. Feel free to add whatever toppings you like, but this grilled pizza recipe is my personal fav!
As you can see, we like to add pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil to our grilled pizza. If you don’t have fresh basil on hand, you can of course sprinkle on some dried basil instead, but just be careful because dried has a much stronger flavor. I also have Buffalo mozzarella pictured here, but you can substitute with shredded cheese as Charlie prefers. Buffalo mozzarella cheese tends to have a creamier, richer taste, so that is always my go-to.
Don’t be afraid to get a good char on your pizza crust! It adds more smokiness to the pizza and gives it that beautiful, rustic look as well as more of a crunch!
Summer Grilled Pizza Recipe 🍕
•1 can San Marzano Tomatoes 🍅 (***imported from Italy 🇮🇹 )
•1/2 tablespoon salt
•Bistro Pre-made Crust
•Fresh Mozzarella Cheese
•Basil
•Crushed Pepper Flakes
•Any other toppings you like!
Add salt to the tomatoes and crush with a fork. Set aside. Gather all your toppings, crust, and sauce to take to the grill. *Leave the crust in the refrigerator until you head outside. Be sure to spray your grill with nonstick grill spray. I usually do this on medium heat. I also cut the dough in a few pieces so it’s easier to handle. Place directly on the grill and close the lid. It probably only takes 1-2 minutes, then flip. Whole the other side is cooking add sauce and toppings, then close the lid so the cheese melts. It should take another 3-4 minutes but keep an eye on it! Enjoy!
