Helllo everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was wonderful! I actually had off this weekend and didn’t have 5,000 things to do, Joey finished his homework early, and my in-laws came up for a visit! It was a normal weekend for once! It was so nice! I kind of forgot what those were like. My mother-in-law wanted me to go shopping and she let me style her, which was a huge success. We had so much fun! Of course we had some great food this weekend, also- dinner at Girasole one night (my favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh) and brunch at Meat and Potatoes. Both were firsts for the in-laws. Anyway, even after an awesome weekend- I know I can use some Monday motivation so I would like to introduce you to the lovely Christa Realba who is just amazing. Her blog, Christa Realba, is so motivating with Christa’s knowledge, personality, and positive outlook on life. Soooo …meet the lovely Christa!

#1 Get More Sleep
People are not getting enough sleep! You probably know this and feel it right now. Yet adequate shut-eye plays a critical role in immune function, metabolism, memory, learning, appetite, and hormonal function. – Aim for 7-8.5 hours of sleep each night. – Go to bed the same time every night. – Go to sleep by 10pm (if possible)
It’s time to upgrade from the drug store variety sitting in your cupboard! Their long list of ingredients, inferior of quality and questionable absorbency make you wonder if you’re benefitting… Answer is probably not.
Quality multivitamins help to fill the nutritional gaps even when you are eating plenty of whole foods. They are the foundation to optimal health.

#3 Vitamin D
In the winter months many of us (up north) are not getting enough of the sunshine vitamin D. It can be difficult to obtain enough from diet alone, especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to cancers of the breast, colon, ovaries, esophagus and pancreas, colds and flus, osteoporosis, Diabetes I and II, MS and more.
It is vital for your overall wellness to have a healthy digestive system. When your system is not working effectively you may have a hard time absorbing nutrients from food, have fatigue, have a weaker immune system and many other symptoms.
p.s Healthy digestion can also have positive effects on your complexion.
#5 Fish Oil and Omega-3s
Most people in North America do not obtain enough omega 3 fatty acids from their diet alone. Fish oils (EPA and DHA) are one of the most well studied supplements on the market and you really can’t go wrong by adding them to your New Year’s supplement regime. These fatty acids help to balance the immune system, act as natural blood thinners, and have anti-inflammatory action.
When choosing a fish oil supplement, look for one that is independently tested for heavy metals and PCBs to ensure it is as clean as possible.
