How I’m Staying Healthy During Quarantine
It’s very surreal to be writing this blog post…the fact that we are actually in a quarantine is honestly still hard for me to wrap my head around. That being said, it seems like each day feels a little less bizarre than the day before, and I’m so thankful that my family and friends are safe right now. I wanted to share how I’ve been keeping myself healthy mentally and physically during such troubling times, and I hope these tips will help!
How I’m Staying Healthy During Quarantine
1. Exercise Routine
Working out from home has never been my favorite way to exercise–I love classes and having an instructor to motivate me in real time, but our current circumstances means that I’ve had to create a new routine for myself at home! Thankfully, there are so many great at-home workouts out there right now, and I’ve found some new favorite workout programs that keep me motivated and excited to work out again! I’ve also gotten back into running on the treadmill and running a bit around our neighborhood–it makes such a huge difference in my mood when I get to be out in the sunshine, and it’s great for our immune systems to get some Vitamin D!
2. Eating Healthy
Being stuck at home makes it sooo tempting to just make a batch of cookie dough and eat the whole thing, but I know that eating a healthy, balanced diet is what will keep my body and mind feeling healthy and sharp! Don’t get me wrong, I definitely let myself have some comfort foods here and there (and a glass of wine of course!), but I try to eat lots of natural foods to keep me energized! I’m especially thankful that we have home-delivery options for groceries–(Wal-mart has been my life-saver more than once). Lately, I’ve been really into making smoothies to pack in my fruits and veggies, and I’ve been loving them! I’ve been following the Fab 4 smoothie by Kelly LeVeque which involves fat, fiber, protein, greens! I usually just toss in some combination of what I have! It turns out pretty well!
Go-To Smoothie Recipe:
- 1/2 Banana
- Hand full of Spinach
- Blueberries + Strawberries
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- Optional: I usually add About Time Protein powder after a workout also.
I’ve used my Nutribullet for years! It was such a good buy. I found one currently on sale for under $50 + extra 20% off. It’s compact in comparison to other blenders. I love it!
On top of eating healthy and exercising, I’ve been trying to be on top of taking more vitamins. My go-tos are Goli apple cider vinegar gummies, 8 Greens tablets, and Vitamin C! Apple cider vinegar is great for boosting your immune system, and these gummies make the taste much more enjoyable. The 8 Greens tablets are also really great because each one contains real greens and TONS of vitamins. I, especially take these on a day where I’m not getting in my greens naturally.
4. Less social media/news
When we first went into lockdown, I found myself checking the news every chance I could get. I didn’t like the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what was going on in the world and what the future would hold. I ended up feeling super drained and anxious from all of the information, though, and I’ve decided that I don’t need to know every little piece of information out there. We have things that we can control such as washing our hands and staying inside, but we can’t control everything, and that’s okay! For now, we can live in the present and try to stay grounded.
5. Setting a daily/weekly schedule
So many people have told me that trying to maintain a schedule is important, and I completely agree! It really helps me to have more motivation and energy when I have a plan of when I want to exercise, eat, work, etc.. Charlie also does well with having a schedule, so it’s much less stressful when everyone is on the same page!
Let me know what you have been doing to stay healthy while sheltering at home! Stay safe!
