6 Basic Outfit Essentials You Need this Spring
Spring is starting to be in full bloom and this makes me soooo happy! With the change in season there are always some basics you need to have to get you through the season. Trust me when I say these 6 basic outfit essentials are going to be pieces you need to invest in. Not that some of them are an “investment” but, they are definitely versatile pieces that you can wear 101 ways and well into the summer months.
1. Denim Jacket-
Hands down, this is an absolute must for Spring. I actually didn’t realize how much I was wearing my denim jacket until I noticed all of the blue denim on my instagram. I’m working to change it up a little bit, but it’s seriously a jacket I wear so frequently because it goes with anything. This jacket was actually purchased a few years ago and it’s still in style. In fact, Madewell still sells this exact jacket and color. You can wear it around your waist, draped over your shoulders like I did here, or over a cute summer dress or romper!

2. Sunglasses-
This goes without saying! Protect those beautiful eyes of yours! I have the hardest time finding sunglasses that fit my face properly, which is why you don’t see me wearing them too often in photos! I am a fan of Ray-Ban because they allow you to customize your sunnies, which is what I did with the ones I’m wearing. I also mentioned earlier SEE Eyewear! I visited the Pittsburgh location and found so many that I liked that actually fit my face. The quality was also amazing (for under $100!).
3. White Denim-
Are you sick of hearing me tell you that you NEED a pair of white denim, yet? If you don’t have a pair.. WHY NOT? I wear white denim ALL YEAR LONG. This post on why you can wear white after Labor Day busts that old myth, so if you don’t believe me check it out! Denim can be an investment piece. After working at Nordstrom, I realized why people do buy designer denim. I hardly every pay full price for designer denim. Typically, I wait for sales like the seasonal Shopbop sales, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, or I check out places like Nordstrom Rack. A lot of times I don’t actually pay over $100 for a $200 pair of denim. However, I totally get not wanting to spend that much on jeans so another brand I highly recommend are Articles of Society and STS Denim– both are sold at Nordstrom and usually under $60. I typically size up in both of these brands.

4. Basic Tees-
A good basic tee is probably the absolute spring essential to have. I love, love wearing tee shirts any time of year. You guys know I go crazy over the Madewell Basic Tees. I still HIGHLY recommend them. Unfortunately, with my growing belly, they aren’t quite long enough. (Don’t worry Madewell, I’ll be back) In the meantime, I found another tee that I am over the moon about and it’s these Free People Rising Sun Tees! They are the perfect length, especially if you want to do a little side knot or just like a longer tee. These tees are super soft and the quality is AMAZING. A lot of times I snub away from certain tees because you can see through them. You cannot see through these!

5. Classic Crossbody Bag-
Two years I splurged on this Chloe Bag while I was working at Nordstrom. (I’m starting to think working at Nordstrom lead to expensive habits!) I was able to get a discount so that definitely helps with the price, but really no matter what brand of crossbody bag you choose, I definitely think it’s worth having at least one for the Spring and Summer months! They are compact and easy to carry around. I find that I do not need a lot of junk during the warmer months other than the basics: phone, lipstick, keys, and maybe some hair ties. Crossbody bags also make great travel buddies, too! I always take one on every vacation we go on because I don’t want to drag a huge tote around!
6. Open Toe Mules (Booties)-
Open toe mules or booties are basically the summer and spring version of your favorite booties you wore all Fall/Winter. Mules have become ever so popular recently and open toe booties are always going to be a classic. You can wear them with denim, dresses, skirts, and shorts! I tend to gravitate toward lighter colors this time of year, so I opted for a nice neutral pair of Calvin Klein’s with a slightly chunky heel.
Ray Ban Sunnies // Free People Tee // AG White Denim (Under $60 Version) // Calvin Klein Mules // Madewell Denim Jacket // Anthropologie Necklace // Chloe Crossbody Bag (Similar Budget Friendly Version) // Michele Watch // Crystal Dot Bracelet

It’s funny I just ordered some open toed mules to go with the pieces I picked from Victoria Beckham’s Target line. I would agree with all of these except I still haven’t jumped on the Denim jacket or white denim bandwagons. I like them! Just haven’t found *the* jacket and white and little boys don’t really mix- one day maybe ha.
